Day 12…
August 10, 2008
Finally was able to sit down and hook today…YAY! I started working on the fan…and got more than 1/2 done. I’ll be adding bits of color to the fans that will then extend to the border. I’m getting excited!
I am not absolutely head over heels in love with my background, but will just keep working on it until I am. It’s okay…not horrible…but it just doesn’t excite me too much.
Day 10 & 11…
August 3, 2008
Well, here ya go!
After spending several hours hooking this weekend,
I got this much done.
There are a few places I will change,
but otherwise, I think I am happy with it.
When one looks at the background from afar,
all one sees is DARK, which is what I want.

Have a good week!!!
Day 9…A Star is Born!
August 2, 2008
YAY…I am finished with the star! Remember, this big a** star is 27 inches wide by 22 inches high. I may move a few strips around, and need to ’sharpen’ that one point on the oxblood red star, but otherwise, I am loving it! You can tell – by looking at the light gold and blue – how unevenly this star was drawn, but I have decided that it enhances its appeal! What do you think?
I changed my mind about how I wanted to hook the background, so will be ripping out reverse hooking the browns. I’m hoping to get a good start on that this weekend!
Day 8…
July 31, 2008
It’s been 3 weeks since Day 7…was really wanting to hook on this, but needed to wait for more rust woolens from Bren. Got the box this week…YAY! Included with the rusts was a brown red – oxblood red – which is gorgeous and perfect for the center of the star. Since Tuesday, I’ve managed to hook a few hours…got the center star done, and now, the top 2 points are hooked, too! (I took this photo before the top points were done, though.) The rug is laying on the back of my sofa, so you can get a sense of how big that big a** star really is!!! The colors are working so well in my living room. AND, the colors on this photo are showing up as very accurate on my computer. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it!!!

By the way, I really need to say a big THANK YOU to Brenis,
who is holding my hand and guiding me through
this big a** star rug! Her color sense is awesome!!!
In Between – Part 2 & All done!
July 20, 2008

oops…forgot to add this photo of the finished basket. I painted the basket with a milk chocolate acrylic paint…over an olive green base. There are other steps to the process, but I tried something different…am very happy with it…matches the border row of hooking beautifully!
No hooking on my big a** star rug this week…was out of town.
In Between – Part 1 is finished…
July 11, 2008
Here’s another one of those ‘quick projects’ that I finished today. It’s for another wooden basket – a 10 x 6 inch one this time. I’m trying something different with the ‘finishing for an antique look’ as I paint the basket…we shall see how it looks.
Ohmygosh, this mat looks so old and soft…much better than I can get a photo of. I’m trying to use up some of my leftover wool strips, so that is what has been used on this one. Am loving doing backgrounds like this…something new for me.
I’ll be attaching it to the lid form later and will show you a photo of it all put together.
Day 7…
July 10, 2008
Hooked just a bit tonight…
filled in this part with the brown background.
I took a close-up photo so you are able to
see all the different textures in the star…
(click on the photo to enlarge it)
I may have to move a few strips in the star
around, but it’s looking good to me.
I have (sort of) a plan for how to work the background…
Day 6…
July 9, 2008
Day 5…
July 6, 2008
I actually got a bit of hooking done this early evening…whew! Was trying to get to it all afternoon! I only filled in the middle star (the blue row and into the center). You know, I was thinking…instead of filling in the odd rows here and there and leaving that inner star as drawn (see how off center & asymmetrical it is?), I may hook one more row and then start hooking it. That inner star is going to be all one color, so it’ll really stand out.
Not sure when I’ll get back to this…I hope before next weekend!
Hook On!
In Between…
July 4, 2008
It’s been a busy week at work & it’s been hot, so I’ve not been working on my big a** star rug. Instead, I designed a little mat…another quick project – this is 10 x 6 inches – for another wooden basket. I think the colors work well together…been using only wool strips from my ‘leftovers’ basket (which, by the way, I never do!). Not yet sure what color I’ll paint the basket…it’ll be a surprise for all of us, I guess!
Hopefully, I’ll be working on my ’star & fans’ rug this weekend. I hadn’t looked at it for a few days…it’s been laying on my table with the (unhooked) sides folded over the star…I opened it up yesterday and OHMYGOSH…I AM…TOTALLY…ECSTATICALLY…in LOVE with it. YAY! {grin}
